WOO HOO, ROAD TRIP… oh, wait.. No, no… Zoo Trip.

Every so many quarters the students of the animation major collect at the Atlanta Zoo, and draw the hell out of pitiful caged up exotic animals. It’s kinda’ sad. I mean, I may be a vegan, and I’m no bleeding heart when it comes to animals. But still, the zoo is like a showcase for sad captivation.

These poor beast are millions of miles away from their homes and placed in tiny artificial habitats where crowds of (what I’m sure they find to be hideous) people ogle at them, scream at them to get their attention, and set off hundreds of blinding flashes in their faces.

For the most part I do enjoy being able to be that close to animals that I would otherwise never see, I just always feel so bad for them. (and the dying imported vegetation they don’t keep up. poor exotic plants) I need to spend more time drawing animals, because my sketches lack a certain something. I can gesture the human figure pretty well, but animals are difficult. Especially when they’re in constant motion.

That creates a new series of problems. I’m going to go back to water coloring. I think it would add a bit of flare to my environment and animal sketches. I’ll go back to the zoo during my next break between quarters and be all creative and stuff.

I’ve almost finished my rotoscope project for my Animation IV class. I know, ROTOSCOPE!? horrifying yes…but at least the teacher allowed us the ability to use the rotoscoped bit any way we thought suitable. So, I ’scoped a bird, then took the wings and slapped on the temples of some poor chap. But he’s happy, he’s flying. I may expand on this one day. I kind of like the character. I say I’m not finished because I want to add some color to his plumage. It’s the first time I have been able to get full color in one of these shorts, and I think I’m getting a little better at drawing with the tablet. Yeah…yep. It’s late…so I’m gonna’ go to sleep now.

Thanks. ‘cept for the birds, these were done when I went back after lunch. It rained for a while, so I did the landscape drawing from the gazeebo (sp?) then when it stopped I terrorized the rest of the zoo by myself. hee hee fun.
