Goofing off?

This is gonna be a doozy of a post, so grab some popcorn or buttered weasel livers (or whatever you prefer) and get comfy. It’s now the middle of my third week on vacation from classes (we have an entire month between spring and summer quarters). Well, during this break I was supposed to get a lot of animating done, but… somewhere along my path I got sidetracked.

I have been spending many of my days sitting around being lonely, not the ”oh, I need a friend lonely”; but the “ I wish I had a girlfriend lonely.” Yeah, I know sounds a bit whiney. But for me it’s not as simple as jumping out there and meeting someone…no.  See, there is a catch. One: I’m an animation major which kind of puts me in a odd class f potential mates (hee hee mates) Then Two: tack on the fact that I’m also a vegan….and it pretty much all goes to hell. It’s hard to explain, but it does create barriers. And so far I’ve been distracted just enough hunting for a woman who can accept me as a vegan and as an animator, that I’ve done very little animating.

I’ve tried trust me, but it is becoming a very depressive lingering thought. This didn’t just happen yesterday is been a growing behemoth for several months. I try to ignore it, but c’mon humans are naturally supposed to pair off. Any way it’s obstructing a good flow of creativity. Of course being in a relationship might do the same (she could consume all my time and leave me feeling emptier and more unfulfilled than before it has before) but on the other side having someone else who I can be creative with might fill me with the charge I need to get cracking 100 percent. Thing is, I’ve never been in a relationship with another artist, and this one girl in my class last quarter was shocked. Her advice was that “stick with your own kind, we artists have to stay together” easy for her to say her boyfriend was an artist at the same school she attends.

I’ve whined enough about not getting any work done, because now that I think of it… even though I didn’t get a lot of animating done, I did get a lot of work done. I created a website for

The Animation Society (we desperately needed an online appendage, but nothing too fancy. just something to get the point across, the real action is at the meetings) I also started work on my personal animation website, but then realized I don’t have that much to put on it yet. (Oh, well) And omigosh! I finally uploaded the Mobal Sute albums online (it’s been six months waiting) I made some really awesome covers for them (it’s the only reason I never uploaded them, without cover work you can’t upload your music) MobalSutealbumcovers.jpg

I also set up a series of symposiums for the summer quarter at the Art Institute of Atlanta featuring members of Turner Studios animation division. That’s pretty awesome. I’ve been to a couple of animation festivals. (and with more to come.) Television over all is fairly disappointing. I actually don’t watch television except recently for the

Mighty B on nickelodeon. It’s genuinely good and I like the loose and bouncy animation. It reminds me of old classics from the rubber hose era (my favorite era second only to Tex Avery’s reign of comedic terror) with a little bit of solidity. The stories are so quirky and spontaneous that my brain is constantly having fun.

I also applied for a whole bunch of grants, I want to start funding some of my animation projects and I desperately need supplies. So, all in all I guess I haven’t really been goofing off… I just used this break to be productive in a few different ways than I thought I would. hmm… maybe I should go see Kung Fu Panda and Wall-E…hmmn…tomorrow.

Dude! You’ll find the girl of your dreams soon. You just have to be patient. You don’t want just any old girl and let’s face it…you want to take it slow. Look at your fam history! Going fast gets you nada. Go to a vegan society meeting or something.
