Sick and Twisted

So, I went to the Plaza Theater last night to watch Spike and Mikes sick and twisted animation festival. It was just that. Less sick than you would think but definitely twisted. I was only turned off by one of the featured films; which consisted of a horse, a bird, an old lady, a pimp, and several unspeakable acts. Anyway, on to the better features some I had seen before like good ‘ol Dr. Tran, but there were even some animations from Art Institute students. Not the Atlanta campus, but one in a place that I’ve never heard of… and strangely can’t find on a map of the schools. Maybe it’s a ghost institute of art. Hmm. It doesn’t matter, what does however is that I was up al night being inspired. Not by the sick and twisted aspect of animation, but the festival aspect of animation. I want to do some shorts to tour on festivals. I’m actually gearing up to do one while I’m on my month long break between semesters at AIA. I have another short that I’m almost finished with that I’m doing as a part of The Animation Society (AIA animation student club) that’s what Ari Aekohrwud is about. (see previous post) We’ve created an entire pocket universe for us to work in. A few people from school have voiced there concerns with me being too ambitious as to take on two animation projects in one month, but I say hell; if being ambitious is better than if I were just being a slacker and not animating. I’ve become a little detached from the experimental artist in me since I’ve been going to school for animation. We don’t have a section for experimenting, well… unless you want to do it on your own time. Which is what I have to do. I have some things in my mind that don’t belong with my other stories just short little one off tales, and random but beautiful visuals. Even if I don’t complete them at least I had the drive to attempt it. Well, having said that, I guess I’ll get back to animating.

holy hell, you’ve been busy too! busy being depressed!!! there is no need for that, shadrick ol buddy. when you don’t look, that’s when she’ll come into your life. happened to me at least. and you know what? i’ve had my share of art farts this past quarter enough for me to decide that i needed a huge change. lucky for me, that change meant airbrushing full time this break, so maybe you just need some spicin and changin and breakin from the norm and try something new for some measure. it just might help you after all, and who know’s the people you’ll meet? “oh the people you’ll meet!” that’s one of my tags of life and its what i live by. give it a try, you never know what you’d learn in the process either. trying something new doesn’t mean giving up animating, taking a break is very healthy and helpful. for me its airbrushing. maybe you’ll find your own form of “airbrushing” and release in the process. until then, i’m hear to listen!
