Cid Journey
So, as promised
| here it is. My super short, short I had to do for my digital ink and paint class. Let me start off by saying that from what I saw in the class today we have quite a bit of animation talent at AIA. Now, I’ll rip my little cartoon a new one by critiquing it to hell and back. Where, to, begin….? Ah, the snow. That snow was SO problematic. I wanted snow that fell as randomly as real snow, but nature is a beast. You can’t mimic such things convincingly by hand without having practiced for a long time. I tried to make a miracle in a day. I tried using guide layers to run the numerous flakes across the screen, but that not only was tedious, but looked like a novice puppeteer was working the snow. ( I guess in some respects, their was). To make matters worse, I got the less than genius idea to try an turn the many guided flakes into a movie clip. OI! So I went with the sheet method, which I saw Adam Phillips (who I talk about quite a bit I noticed) do in a demo. It worked, but because of the sheer amount of all those flakes having to move in unison across the screen… Flash crashed several times. (not only at home but at the school too) Again I hate the raster backgrounds we were made to do, but this is the first and last time I’ll let this kind of crap slide in my animation work. raster based? really?!…c’mon! (see Winter Wonderland post if you don’t know what I’m going on about.) My favorite bit is his eye rolling with the blink. It’s so fluid to me. I think I’m getting better, but I just didn’t have enough time to create a fully fluid animation. This production, much like Pollumo Arrives, straddles that line between full an limited animation. But four classes fighting for my attention, each with varying intensities, will cause what in your head, looks fluid… to be choppy an infantile. But I am still learning how to animate, and I have an entire month off from school, so I’ll finally get to work at an animation project from the perspective of someone who does this with no interruptions. I have two, yes, two shorts lined up… so we’ll see just how much of a slacker I really am. My bets are on very much, but I’m also willing to bet against myself. sad. I’ll also be building a new site just for my animation endeavor also called Smars Unlimited. weeeeeee! So much on my plate, but are my eyes bigger than my stomach? hmm. |
