Roll Yer Own 5
I just got back from the 5th annual Roll Yer Own animation festival hosted by
ASIFA-Atlanta. Which, yes… I am now OFFICIALLY a member of. I say that, because after a few months of waiting, I finally received my most excellent members card in the mail. I don’t think it can get me backstage at concerts or the Anney awards like a press pass could, but none the less it feels pretty cool walking around with it in my wallet. So on to the animation festival. It was pretty rad (which is my new word to kill-ded. Awesome is officially kill-deded by me) so my little short Pollumo Arrives was like the first to show on the list. I was so nervous to see people’s reaction to my odd little cartoon. I have to say the dancing poo sequence always gets a massive question mark. It’s a running joke with my friends, which has been going on since high school. So I’ve been doing poo jokes for about 12 years. Gee, you would think I was getting too old to find it funny…. But c’mon, how can you not find those cute little soft serve swirly poo poos unfunny?… whatever…. I saw some really awesome and experimental stuff. One person did an animation with a light bright. An ephing LIGHT BRIGHT! It was awesome. There were a lot of cartoons, some environmentally charged, some emotionally charged, and some seeming like a drunken romp around animation town. But all were good. Just the thought that these guys love animation this much made me feel like a part of a family or a community mind set. Sort of the way I do at a comic book convention, but a little bit more intimate. The awesome part about this show is the cartoons we created are going to go on around the world touring shows in an international dvd exchange. AWESOME! Oh, and by the way… in case you were wondering about the name on my membership card…my real name is Shadrick. Solomon Mars is my animation pen name… y’know like Tex Avery, Friz Freleng, or even Maxwell Atoms. What?… you didn’t think that was his real name did you? c’mon. |
