Low Tech?
Low Tech?

Right. Um… so, this is my first blog ever. Seriously. I never really thought about putting my thoughts and experiences out where people could read them at will. On top of that I’m what people consider “low-tech“. I dunno’. I don’t consider my self lowtech, I’m just not as ”plugged in” as many of the people I’m around. I’m a non traditional student going to an art school here in atlanta, which from this point on I will call Calamitville Institute of Art (heh heh) studying to be an animator. Now by nontraditional I mean I’m currently 31 years old, which is in stark contrast to the fresh out of high school kids I’m surrounded by. I only know one other dude my age there… but i digress. So I was dubbed or suspected of being lowtech by my classmates ( i don’t know why. maybe my age… or maybe the way I speak ill of CG programmes like Maya and 3dSM). But I don’t cosider myself to be lowtech. ( I used to work for the Georgia Institute of Technology, as an IT guy for crying out loud.) whatever. I’m not hitech I’m not lowtech… I’m just me. I’ll never fully embrace technology but I’ll never distance myself so much that I become lost to the evolution of it. I will say this… I’m a hardcore advocate for traditional animation ( you know what I’m talking about.) Hell, I like rubberhose animation (I like straight ahead animation, over pose planning animation… don’t ask why.) But despite this, I’m still willing to learn the new stuff. Even if it does seem a bit soulless. I animate through Flash, and After Effects, with imported images done by hand. It’s about harmony. No one way is best… I believe Bruce Lee put it best when He said “be like water.” I apply that to life. I never focus on one way of doing anything… but I am still human, so some things (like maya) frustrate me to all ends and make me hate technology.
